What you'll need

  • Software only - MATLAB/Simulink, vehicle dynamics model, tire models

Steps

  1. Research a standard tire model like the Pacejka Magic Formula.
  2. Build the tire model in MATLAB or Simulink and plot force vs. slip.
  3. Connect it to a simple vehicle handling model.
  4. Simulate cornering on dry, wet, and icy roads.
  5. Find the speed at which the vehicle loses grip for each condition.
  6. Document the model and results for your portfolio.

What to photograph for your portfolio

  • Tire force curves
  • slip ratio analysis
  • handling diagram
  • stability margin plot
  • cornering performance
